A look back to 1960's fashion

April 07, 2012

1960's is a decade where countless fashion trends popped out. It completely revolutionized the conservative 50's by giving birth to a more liberal trends. Here are some of the top fashion trends of the 1960's and tips on how to wear it in modern times:

FRINGES
The 1960's flapper dress embellished with beads and fringe are dazzling. Fringes have always marked the fashion world. You can always wear one today:

Look 1 - Go for a hippie youngster with a fringe shirt, paired it with a distress denim cut-off short, snickers and a studded leather clutch.

Look 2 - Be a girly hippie with this style. Wear a fringe halter top, paired with acid wash skinny jeans, gladiator sandals and a boho bag. Try to wear bright colors. 1960's is all about flashy colors.

Look 3 - For a casual look try to wear an aztec inspired fringe dress, thong sandals and a tote bag

MINISKIRTS
There are all sorts of miniskirts today thanks to designer John Bates for creating the mini skirts in 1960. Among the 1960's models who popularized the said trend is the world renown and my own personal favorite Twiggy.

Look 1 - for a more classic sophisticated look sport a black mesh miniskirt and paired it with white top, black clutch and black ankle boots.

Look 2 - Wear a girly ruffles miniskirt with a beaded mesh top, tote and a wedge for that trendy look.

Look 3 - For a party girl effect wear a pink miniskirt with a glitz tiered tank, pastel colored bag and flower print pumps

LEG PANTS AND BELL BOTTOMS
I remember looking at my grandparents and parents photos wearing this cool pants. They all look hippie with it. But you can always wear this without looking too hippie. But make sure to always wear high heeled shoes otherwise you're gonna end up mopping the floor while you walk.

Look 1 - Pair up your wide leg pants with a blazer, and a satin pumps for a corporate look

Look 2 - Dart a high waist leg pants with a silk ruched blouse, gold chain necklace, and a pair of black stiletto. Ensure to mix patterned pants with dark colored top and shoes or the other way around.

Look 3 - for the hot chic look wear a bell bottom pants with a loose styled blouse  and a pair of wedge

CULOTTES
They are cute and always scream vintage.

Look 1 - try to mix light colored Culottes with a dark silk tank top, silk belt adorned with flower and a leather brogues for a casual look

Look 2 - For a french striped culottes pair it with a printed kimono styled top, long chain necklace, and a pair of suede platforms.

Other Fabulous trend during the 1960
  • The Pixie haircut  - a giant among 60's hairstyle. Remember Audrey hepburn
  • The Ballet Flats - again thanks to Audrey Hepburn. Ballet Flats have become a wardrobe staple and must until now. You can always wear anything with it from pants to skirts to shorts etc. etc.
  • Bangs - a gratitude to french singer Francois Hardy...well i got bangs since i was 13 lol... I feel like I'm bald without it. hahaha
  • Capri Pants
  • Bikini - wells thanks to bombshell Brigitte Bardot

  3. Palazzo pants (leg pants) are definitely one of my favorite trends. They are perfect on a hot-hot day in a lightweight fabric like jersey or modal that drape well!

Of course mini skirts are timeless, you just have to keep your legs taut to pull them off.

    Great picks
